Katakolo!

The port could be characterized as the trademark of Katakolo, but also of the wider area. It is a key pillar of tourist entry into our country, as it is now ranked as one of the most important cruise ports in the country based on traffic and annual number of arrivals.

During the 19th century, the port played a very important role for the trade of the wider region, as it was the main gateway for the export of raisins to Europe. The main commercial character of the port was preserved during the greater part of the 20th century, with fertilizers as an object. In recent decades the character of the port gradually changed to a touristic one, as more and more cruise companies began to add Katakolo to their schedule. The reason for this was the very close distance from one of the world’s most important archaeological treasures, Ancient Olympia. As a result, it was included in the largest cruise ports of our country.
